Dear families,
What a busy and exciting week! On Monday, the third grade traveled to The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. There they toured the Egypt exhibit and were able to see ancient Egyptian artifacts such as jewelry, canopic jars, and even real mummies! Students had a great time exploring the museum together and learning more about ancient Egypt. Another highlight was on Tuesday, a woman named Jaimi visited us from The Perkins School. Jaimi, like Helen Keller and Laura Bridgman, is both blind and deaf. She and her interpreter gave a presentation and third graders had the opportunity to ask Jaimi questions.
A few curriculum highlights from the week:
Math
- Adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators
- Identifying fractional parts of a set
Social Studies
- Students continued to work on creating model pyramids.
- The class also learned more about ancient Egyptians' belief in the afterlife. Students thought about what items they would bring with them if they were pharaohs planning for the afterlife. They then drew those items, decorating the inside walls of their model pyramids.
Language Arts
- Students continued to read the biographies of Helen Keller and Laura Bridgman.
- In writing, students worked on their biography research projects.
Reminders...
Biography suitcase projects are due on May 2nd.
Next Friday is Grandfriends Day. There will be a noon dismissal on that day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
